Interesting places to visit this summer –

Massachusetts is steeped in history and that becomes more evident this summer with several special events and milestones

Cape Cod Canal turns 100 – The Cape Cod Canal Centennial celebration is a 10 day celebration scheduled from Julu 25th thru August 3rd including a 2 hour tugboat parade across the canal on July 29th beginning at 4pm.  In addition during this 10 day celebration thee will be maritime themed events, concerts.

July 26th 9pm – parade of lights – pleasure and commercial craft can participate – register at

July 25 – July 28 US Coast Guard Eagle sailing ship tours at Mass Maritime Academy in Buxxards Bay section of Bourne

July 26 – July 27th – Charles W Morgan available for tours at Maritime Academy – country’s oldest floating commercial vessel

July 28 – July 31st – Kalmar Nyckel tall ship – available for tours (arrival and tour schedules dependent on weather conditions and tides)

2pm on 7/29 ceremonty at Buzzards Bay Park in Bourne

4pm to 9pm – family activities and entertainment ending with a fireworks display over the railroad bridge in Bourne


Bourne Society of Historical Preservation – musicians performing songs from previous century – 22 Sandwich Rd in Bourne Noon to 5 on July 26th


July 25th to July 27th – Briggs McDermott House – model shop show  10am to 4pm


Cape Cod Central Railroad – train rides from Buzzards Bay Depot – including trip across vertical lift railroad bridge at

11am and 3:3pm pm on July 26th and July 27th

Construction of this waterway began in 1909.  Today 14k commercial and recreational vehicles travel the canal annually.
