It’s Time for Farmer’s Markets

Being a realtor means much more than buying and selling homes.  We also need to know the communities that we work in and what is happening in those communities.

In this day of eating healthier and supporting locally grown foods, farmers markets have sprung up all over Massachusetts and other states.  Billerica and surrounding towns are proud to each have their own farmers market.

Billerica – Mondays from 3 to 7

Lexington – Tuesdays  2 to 6:30

Chelmsford – Thursdays from 2 to 6

LowellFridays  2 to 7

Carlisle – Saturdays 8 to noon

Wilmington –  Sundays  10:30 to 1:30

Some additional information about farmers markets in your community.  Did you know that there is a program called SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Progra – formerly food stamps),

What is SNAP?  According to the state website – SNAP benefits are provided by the federal government and administered by DTA. Residents of the Commonwealth who participate in SNAP are families with children, elders and disabled. Many are the working poor with limited income or those who are temporarily unemployed. At the check-out counter, the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, which works like a debit card, is used by many more residents to assist them in making ends meet.  For more info click here

Some Farmers markets accept SNAP coupons.  Go to the Market Booth and ask if they accept SNAP.

For Billerica – the following was posted on facebook about a program called SFMNP (Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program) – According to the posting

Billerica’s Farmer’s Market now accepts payment via the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Massachusetts offers Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides low-income seniors with coupons for eligible foods at farmers’ markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agriculture programs. For more information about your eligibility for getting coupons call the Outreach staff at the Billerica Council on Aging at 978-671-0916

Check with the farmer’s market in your town on both SNAP and SFMNP.  These are great programs and help those in need eat healthy.  What an incredible service.
